SAWRA Technician Accreditation provides independent recognition for technicians who demonstrate competence against applicable SAWRA standards and accreditation requirements.
SAWRA accreditation is not based on branding, product affiliation or training provider preference.

It is based on recognised competence, supporting evidence, verification and assessment against applicable SAWRA requirements.

As South Africa’s independent automotive glass standards authority, SAWRA supports accreditation, verification and competency recognition initiatives throughout the automotive glass sector.

Accreditation Pathway Overview

1. Training or Prior Experience

Applicants may enter the accreditation process through recognised training pathways or by demonstrating existing industry experience.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathways may be available for experienced technicians who can provide sufficient supporting evidence.

2. Application & Evidence Submission
Applicants submit supporting documentation, evidence and information relevant to the accreditation being sought.
Incomplete applications may not proceed to review.

3. Competency Assessment
Applications are assessed against applicable SAWRA requirements associated with the accreditation pathway selected.
Specific assessment methodologies are not publicly disclosed.

4. Accreditation Decision
Following review, applicants may be granted recognition, deferred for additional information, placed under review or declined.

5. Verification & Recognition
Successful applicants may be included within applicable SAWRA verification and recognition systems.
Recognition status may change from time to time based on accreditation, compliance, review or governance activities.

Recognition Status Framework

Recognition status within the SAWRA framework may include:

Active – Recognition currently valid and recognised by SAWRA.

Under Review – Recognition currently undergoing review or verification activities.

Suspended – Recognition temporarily suspended pending review, investigation or corrective action.

Expired – Recognition period concluded and renewal requirements outstanding.

Withdrawn – Recognition no longer recognised within the SAWRA framework.

Status classifications may change from time to time in accordance with applicable SAWRA governance processes.

Standards Alignment

Technician accreditation may be associated with one or more recognised SAWRA standards, including:

  • SAWRA-WCISP-2025 – Windscreen Chip Integrity & Safety Protocol
  • SAWRA-AGFSISP-2025 – Automotive Glass Fitment & Structural Integrity Standards Protocol
  • SAWRA-ADASIP-2025 – Advanced Driver Assistance Systems Integrity Protocol
  • SAWRA-HRSP-2025 – Headlight Restoration & Safety Protocol

Practical training is delivered by approved Specialist Certified Training Providers (SCTPs) operating independently within the SAWRA framework.
